Dubai RTA Integrates Chinese AI and Big Data to Upgrade Metro Systems

Dubai’s RTA partners with Chinese tech firms to integrate AI and Digital Twin technology into the Metro’s maintenance and operations.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expanding its technical partnerships with Chinese technology firms, including Huawei, to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data into the Dubai Metro’s operational infrastructure. The move aims to transition the world’s longest driverless rail network toward a fully digitalized maintenance and management system. Predictive Maintenance and Digital Twins Central to this collaboration is the implementation of "Digital Twin" technology, which creates a precise virtual replica of the Metro’s physical assets. This system allows RTA engineers to monitor real-time performance and simulate various operational scenarios without disrupting actual service. By utilizing Huawei’s cloud computing capabilities, the RTA can process vast amounts of data from rail sensors to predict mechanical failures before they occur. The shift to predictive maintenance replaces traditional scheduled inspections, reducing operational costs and minimizing unplanned downtime for the millions of commuters using the Red and Green lines. The RTA reports that these data-driven insights are essential for managing the increased load on the network as Dubai’s…
